A fresh new year is an excellent opportunity to be grateful on how far you've come and to know what really matters the most. Use this period of time as a chance to continue growing and becoming the best version of yourself, for you.

It's a perfect time to embark on a journey of growth that take you out of your comfort zone and into a realm of limitless possibilities that feels authentic to your true self.

And setting intention can be the start of that journey and make it purposeful.

"Intention is the starting point of every dream. It is the creative power that fulfils all of our needs, whether for money, relationships, spiritual awakening or love. Everything that happens in the universe begins with intention." - Deepak Chopra

We often think that intentions as "what do we want to achieve"; what's our goals; what are our deepest desires.

how to set intention vs set goals

Deepak Chopra's daughter, Mallika Chopra, explained in this eye-opening TED Talks that intention is different than goal. "Intent is who we aspire to be, as individuals, as members of our family, as members of our community, and citizens of mother earth.", she said.

She ended her talk by delivering these questions to the audience and asked them to listen and experience the answers as opposed to have the need to answer. Here are the questions:

  1. Who am I?

  2. Who am I?

  3. What do I want?

  4. What do I want?

  5. How can I serve?

  6. How can I serve?

And now we want to close your eyes, take a couple deep breaths and repeat those questions.

What do you feel? Where does it tingle in your body? Where does your mind take you?

Although setting ambitious goals is great, setting intentions can be a gentle, yet powerful way to focus your mind and align your actions with your innermost desires and aspirations. You are delving into a deeper understanding of who you are and what truly matters to you.

how to set a purposeful year with intention

Here are some benefit that you can get once you start living with intention:

1. Become self-aware.

This can be a journey of cultivating self-awareness and discovering how YOUR system works. Tip: during the process, don’t talk yourself out of what calls to you just because you’re not sure about the why. If you feel called to do something, there’s a part of you that wants to experience it. Honour that part and see where it takes you.

2. Enriching your connections with your community.

It allows you to actively participate in the lives of those around you and to build deeper, more meaningful relationships. It provides a sense of belonging and a sense of purpose. You can create a more vibrant, supportive, and cohesive environment for yourself and those around you and go to bed knowing that you leave an impact on the world every day.

3. Good for your emotional well-being and mental balance.

It can assist you in approaching challenges with a positive and serene attitude, rather than being reactive. It allows you to be more aware of your emotions, as well as those of others, to respond to them in a compassionate and caring way, and make choices that are in harmony with your deepest self.

4. Tap into a sense of peace, serenity, and authenticity

By connecting with your core values and the deeper purpose behind your actions, you can tap into a sense of peace and serenity in your daily life. You are making a commitment to yourself to strive towards your authentic goals and to make choices that are true to yourself and your innermost desires. This can help you to create lasting positive changes in your life and to live in a way that is authentic and in tune with your ethereal being.

So, before we go, we want you to one more time doing this prompt as told by Mallika Chopra. This time, we want you to write them down or really take your time to sit with these questions.

  1. Who am I?

  2. Who am I?

  3. What do I want?

  4. What do I want?

  5. How can I serve?

  6. How can I serve?

Last but not least, we hope you are inspired to nurturing your intentions and holding them dear. May it set yourself on the path to a transformative journey. Let us know in the comment section below, what's your journey when it comes to living with intention?

Grateful for you,

Isabelle Moon Team
